Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has backed old friend Steven Gerrard to take over at Aston Villa if approached.
Dean Smith has been sacked as boss after losing five Premier League games in a row, with reports suggesting that four of the current favorites are Roberto Martinez and Cas. Per Hulmand, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Gerrard
The former Reds captain has done an excellent job in charge of Rangers, leading the team to their first league title in 10 years this season, leading the league, but Carragher suggested. An old friend said he should take the job if a club like Aston Villa contacted him.
“I think Anton Villa as a club would be a great move for Steven Gerrard,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“But the situation he is in right now is to take the title from Celtic last season. And he’s in a good position to win the championship again. I think in a perfect world you want to stay at Rangers until the end of the season and walk out of there with two trophies.
“I mean, this isn’t something from Steven Gerrard, but ‘I think I’ve been working for four years at Scottish. Premiership’ and I think sooner or later will be a good opportunity for Steven Gerrard to come to the Premier League. which he will receive a better offer.”
“If he gets an offer to manage Aston Villa, I don’t think there are many jobs in the Premier League where he will get a better offer.”
“People talk about Liverpool and that will probably be another two or three years with Jürgen Klopp, but you don’t get a better job. So it was his decision.”
